Kids'
chill out tunes
by Joanna Davis
Stressed
out children are learning how to take life at a leisurely
pace thanks to the soothing sounds of a Balgowlah mum's yoga
CD.
Yoga
teacher Kim McCormick has produced a CD designed to give kids
a break from the 21st century pressures of school and extra-curricular
obligations.
The
Bliss CD features guided relaxation music that can be used
at the end of yoga sessions or just before bedtime.
Ms
McCormick said the most common request she received from youngsters
during yoga class was for "the lying down bit at the
end".
"My
children have certainly had times when they have been very
stressed and anxious, particularly in relation to school,
and I would get them to do a relaxation to help them calm
themselves," she said.
"I
started to guide them through a relaxation practice as they
went to bed and it worked wonders. Now when my children see
me get stressed, they will tell me to relax and put on the
CD."
The
CD, made up of 17 three-minute compositions by local artist
Ian Cameron Smith, is available from www.magicmonkey.com.au.
